"Seeking Kudoki-Uta"

What is called Kudoki-Uta means, so to speak, ballads sung among the common folk.

Accidents and incidents, like double suicide incidents printed on Kawara-Ban (news sheets of Edo period) or even the synopses of plays were composed in the metrical patterns of 7-5 or 7-7 morae, then sung with melodies.

These Kudoki-Uta used to be eagerly sung and enjoyed at gatherings such as Bon Odori (summer festivals), but as the time goes by, the amount of those opportunities have decreased gradually.

Meanwhile, I overheard about a gentleman who by himself composes and sings what is called "Okiage-Kudoki" and rushed to visit him.

The word "Okiage (means hauling up the fishing net)" reminds me of that famous song, that goes "soran soran...(Soran-Bushi)" and it is that actually but...well, it's already started.
